It is my month to host, and for this month I've chosen Ernest J.Gaines '   A Lesson Before Dying .  Before I even received The Book Club Cook Book , I had my heart set on making Minny's Caramel Cake from The Help because I’ve been looking for an excuse to try my hand at a homemade caramel cake ever since I read the book. Gaines is one of my all-time favorite authors and A Lesson Before Dying was actually the first book of his that I read about 15 year ago while I was in high school. It's the second month of The Book Club Cook Book Cooking Crew! This month, A Walk in the Woods  by Bill Bryson was up for creating a recipe inspired by the book and was chosen by Andrea over at Adventures In All Things Food! This book follows Bryson and his friend's experience walking the Appalachian Trail. I had never heard of this book and wasn't really sure if I'd like a memoir about nature. When some of the ladies were mentioning how hilarious they found the book, my interest was piqued! And, yes, this book was comedic and very pleasant to read. I was also surprised to see that a movie was coming out based on this book, and I'm waiting anxiously until it arrives in theaters and I hope they were able to reflect some of their unique and crazy experiences! This is a yearlong project by other bloggers and myself where we read, cook and post recipes inspired by books in The Book Club Cook Book by Judy Gelman and Vicki Levy Krupp. There are so many books and recipes to try, I'm very excited to work my way through this book and be inspired to read new book and try new recipes! This book includes 9 stories in which all the characters in each of the stories struggles with being part of two cultures, East Indian culture and American culture. Today I am so excited to share with you a wonderful recipe (Pecan Praline Thumbprints) and a totally inspired cookbook (Cookie Love) by Mindy Segal! Both the recipe and the cookbook have become quick favorites of mine, and I am having a great time working my way through this cookbook. Below I am sharing with you a review and a recipe-- I hope that you enjoy!! The Review: This is not your average cookbook and Mindy Segal is not your average cookie baker. She's a James Beard Award Foundation winner, and she also owns a highly acclaimed restaurant in Chicago called Mindy's Hot Chocolate . This cookbook is definitely not for those looking for Betty Crocker style recipes. The cookies in this cookbook are unique and some of the ingredients are a little more unusual and harder to find.
